Hello, My name is Robert and Im from Latvia, sorry that i dont speak Dutch but this is the only real forum where you can find usefull information and help.
I own this blue lupo 3l 2001 year with 245.000km on the clock with glass sunroof , actually I own it the 2nd Time I sold it 2years ago, because I needed a bigger car at the time for work, than I moved to the city from the county side and one day dont know what happened in my brains out of nowhere I thought I should look whats on the market and there it was, heck it I need it back, It hadn't an easy life after or before i owned it but the price was half I sold it. before I owned the first time i 100% was in a crush because the hood and fenders are not from the 3L (steel) and the hood is badly rusted and should be changed, and have some holes in the sideskirts (will be welded and painted). In the last 3months I have refubished the stearing rack (manual), there was no bearings where they should be, cleaned the turbo (stuck vanes), cleaned the starter (didnt release in time), oil and filter change. Problems for now all the glow plugs are not working (will change all + relay), front left abs sensor gone, and resolve RTFM!12 while performing basic setting (changed the rod ), and the shifter wont go in + (tiptronic mode) , its like there is a wall, maybe someone knows how to repair this problem!?

I just wrote a biiiiig update but it logged of and I lost the post! :angry-cussingblack: so I will post the full story of this lupo abit later, but for now I have problems that I would like to solve, maybe You can help out!
1) still RTFM!12 after rod change that had a massive freeplay!!
2)its hard to put shifter in tiptronic and imposible to tilt the lever to the (+) position!
3)all 3 glowplugs according to vagcoma not working (Ithink I should be the relay because there was blocked drains under the windshield)
4)wipers start working on their own (think relay problem too,but maybe the lever is faulty??? stops only when I spray fluid on the window)
5) the fuel empty lamp don't lights up, one time irunout of fuel the moment I reached the red line but (no fuel empty light) vagcom shows 7 liter in the tank.
today took out the pickup/sender unit and found a spring missing, now seems it pick up more fuel (there was like 6-7 liter inside likevagcom said) after putting all back the light was on, but after I started again no more light now Iam nearly out of the red zone and no light (5liters inside according to VAGCOM) as I know it should light up at 6liters of content (reserve). realisticly how far the needle goes before GAME OVER does its stops like in the position when the ignition is off? when realisticly should the fuel empty come on?

MAybe someone have an original airbox(old owner changed to a conical racing filter) :duhpompom: and drivers side doorcard with handles, I would be happy to buy them because here they are hard to find?

This is your biggest problem, I am no expert on this. What faultcodes do you have?

Strange story. Why don't you remove/open the shifter, to see if something is stuck in between there? It is relatively easy to do.

Don't worry to much about the glow plugs, they are only used below 0 or -5 degrees celcius and then only around 0.7 1.2 seconds.

This sounds to me you have a defective handle. They are easy to find here as well. Be care to take out the steer. you can easilly destroy the Airbag wire unit at the back of the steering,

I would replace the pickup/sender to check if it will fix it. Maybe the potentiometer is worn down?

The spareparts you need are not hard to find. think most chance is to contact EJR in kootstertille, or Ecomotive in Heerhugowaard. (Just google). They have both some stock spareparts. Otherwise we can help you on http://www.onderdelenzoeker.nl or http://www.schadeautos.nl

so this is the last log I made:

there was 3 errors before I changed the rod now left with 1.

cant see anything form upside in the shifter that is stuck! I think the only solution is to take it out from the underside, I was too lazy all this time because all the exhaust should be taken off and I'm afraid to do so I need to lower the fornt subframe too! Just asked maybe someone had a similar problem!?

for the glowplugs and wiper first I will try to see if the relays at not at fault because the drain was stuck and there was water under the window (hope the ecu's are fine)
if not will change handle and plugs it will be all around 30euros!? the glowplug system is very important because here its -10 to -25 all winter usually!

today I pulled at the gas station and got one stutter before I parked at the pump , after filling I hade to crank the starter 1-2seconds more than usual, so I think the fuel ended. It was straight in the middle of the red line! fuel light never lit up, vagcom before that drive showed 4liter so I think it is the sender, it locked ok when I took it out but You never know with those electronic parts. but the question if the reading was 4liter (even if wrong) shouldn't the light come on anyways?

Robert,

you can remove the shifter tower without removing the exhaust, you only need to be inside the car. There are no bowdencables like in a normal manual operated gearbox, everything is electronic.

I know there is no mechanical connections but all i can take of is the knob and the round plate/shifter gate. From Up i see nothing wrong. the complete shifter should be taken of the car, i see 4bolts that bolts from inside the cabin but i think the shiter comes out downward from under the car, maybe Iam wrong.

had a bit of free time and changed the glowplugs and fuel filter, still shows all 3 not working, so i think the fault is the relay or fuse, i have them both but dont know which ones are the right one didnt find information of the location, i know the location of the fuse and relay box I just dont know the right fuse/relay!

plus found that he plastic over the interior filter has a crack and while raining all water just goes in the cabin filter / fan box, should find a new one for the meantime just taped it with some ducttape :oops: cleaned the fan box with some paper towels and left some cat liter sand in a sock :lol: overnight, hopefully i will have taken out all the moisture before the cold weather...

This week I will have some free time so will change some parts that are on my shelf for a while. Brake disks, pads front/rear, stearing joint (one is from a non-3l lupo), brake shields, wheel arch inside covers, abs sensor front left, and some fighting with the rust!!! hopefully will remember to make some pictures of the work, but I always get caried with the work and forget about it! :naughty: :banana-gotpics:

Quick question, Does the Standart Lupo have different shocks (apart from being aluminium) and springs? If Yes where is the difference?

Apart from being aluminium no. The difference is in the load ratings as the 3L is 170kg lighter, the back end will be very jumpy with standard suspension parts. I hope this answers your question.

Yes, Thank You for the answer! Because my shocks are done. I have an offer for 1.0 Lupo's lowering springs , I think the weight is almost the same + I was looking at coilovers and noone mentions if they fits on 3L. there is a possibility they fit from the polo 6n?

Polo 6N also fits but the difference is that the coils are around the dampers and not between body and rear axle. I would not use these are they are made for a 1100 kg vehicle where your 3L is only 800.

hello, after cleaning the turbo, opened not just trying to spray something in it! it starts to stuck again in a week time, i have to take the actuator of and move the arm for 5-10min than its ok again!
but the boost trough VAGCOM is not ideal still, could it be the turbo is done and needs to be changed? or maybe the n75 valve doesnt work, the only other thing i could inmagine is the vacuum is to low, because the big connector to the vacuum pump is loose. how could I check if the n75 valve is working properly an the vacuum is ok? for now the consumption is 3,1 highway and 4,7 city dont know if its ok?

plus I have seen in a lot of topics that the swirl + egr is deleted. What are the rpos and cons of this conversion? is there a FAQ about that? I like the concept because i have isues with the plug in hose (i think it leaks) with the clip, on the delete its possible to fit a regular hose with fasteners>>>>

first. VAG-COM 01-engine -> basic settings-04 -> kanaal-011 difference should be 80 a 100


second, pro no egr. downside no extra pre-heating of the car

Today bought another lupo 3L for a very low price in very good condition in black year 1999 the pre-facelift with battery at the front and rear alloy hatch. But have a issue with the gearbox. It shifts in tiptronic mode but wont change gear in D. Scaning with vagcom shows 3 of 4 abs sensors dead and the strangest is the auto trans. Module wont connect the scaning always ends with retry, maybe someone had this issues and know what to look first.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts to the gearbox computer (in black plastic housing) or using the computer from your first car?

The later gearboxcomputers have adjustable creep.

So the gearbox shifts now. Right front abs sensor was showi g double the actual speed. Took of the wheel and wanted to disconnect the sensor and the sensor wasnt even screwed it poped right out so for now driving with the sensor disconnected but it seams that the fault is in the sensor not the abs ring because the sensor tip is in bad shape. But still the vagcom doesnt show the TCM as if the car was a manual no log in autoscan and retry if i try with auto trans module.
