New tyres set.

Hello,
I have to buy New set of Rubber for my lupo.
Right now I think I will get all weather type but I was thinking of switching to a2 size but nothing is available here.
So it got me thinking if maybe 165/70r14 which is same as a2 but wider.
Anyone uses that size in lupo? Any rubbing? How with fuel economy?
Car converted to manual and tuned for more poke.

Hi there,

maybe the best way to lower the fuel consumption (wheel wise) is to use the special '99 only 4J wide rims and use the A2 tyres and inflate them to at least 3 bar. And the most important factor here is the intellect that sits between the accelarator and steering wheel, named dostawca. I had the Audi A2 and Lupo 3L simultaniously but I can't recall using the A2 tyres on the Lupo at all and with the stock setup of the Lupo my personal record was around 2.38L/100km on a full 42L fuel tank (= 34L + 8L overflow filled up by pressing the black vacuum nipple while refueling).
And if you get more poke, you need rubber on the ground to convert in into 'go power' and 'stop power' so maybe just stick to 155 original tyres.

Hey, like I said original a2 size isn't available at all here. Instead I was thinking about 165/70r14. Right now I was doing like 2,9l with original wheels and box. Tyres pumped up to 3,2bar Winter set.
My country isn't very flat so I guess it is fine anyway.
I'm curious if I could use a bit higher speed with same rpm and if that would affect the fuel consumption at all.

Hence my advice to just use orginal sizing. I think the higher speed will be minimal with slightly larger tyres, 1 or 2 percent. You can calulate it, if the tyre is 3% larger you will need 3% less revolutions from the engine. When travelling 100km/h @ 2400rpm you should go down to 2350 or a little less. But in practice no difference might be experienced.
